Recreation

female running on the track located at the campus recreation centerWe encourage conference groups to plan recreational activities for their guests. In addition to sports equipment available through service desks, the university offers many excellent recreational facilities including a climbing wall, tennis courts, putting green, batting cage, outdoor track, equestrian center, outdoor adventure activities, and the Memorial Union Games Area featuring sixteen bowling lanes, full size billiard tables, video and pinball arcade, and snack vending machines.

UC Davis also offers an indoor sports center, the Activities and Recreation Center [ARC], with basketball courts, weight lifting/exercise facilities, a climbing wall, gymnastics equipment, aerobic classes, handball, squash, and raquetball courts. And our summer guests may be interested in the Rec Pool, which boasts the largest free-form swimming pool on the west coast with lap lanes and a sun warming island; facilities include a bathhouse with showers and toddler’s splasher pool, all surrounded by a large shaded grassy area.

Some of these facilities require the purchase of a pass or some other form of payment. Access to some facilities, such as the ARC or Rec Pool, may be arranged in advance at reduced rates when planned as part of a conference package.

Guest Safety & Conduct

Guests staying in the halls are expected to abide by all University and Residence Hall Regulations. These policies have been established in the interest of assuring that our diverse community of summer guests has a safe and enjoyable visit while at UC Davis. Please pay special attention to the following guest policies.

  • The use and/or possession of alcoholic beverages without an alcohol permit is prohibited on the UC Davis campus, including in and around residence halls and dining rooms.
  • Please observe quiet hours between 11pm and 8am.
  • Non-registered guests may not stay in the residence halls.
  • All youth guests are expected to follow curfews established for the conference they attend.
  • Smoking is only allowed outdoors [further than 25 feet from any building entrance or ventilation access] and in private spaces. City ordinances prohibit smoking in public spaces.

Fire Safety

Residence halls are protected by an excellent fire detection and response system. Each room is equipped with fire detection equipment which, when triggered, initiates full and immediate response from UC Davis Fire Department, which also supports a HazMat unit and EMS technicians. Because of the sensitivity of this equipment, electric cooking appliances are prohibited in all halls. Guests found to have tampered with fire safety equipment will be charged $100.

Upon checking into your room, please familiarize yourself with available exits and placement of fire alarm pull boxes. If you discover a fire, pull the alarm and immediately leave the building through the nearest exit; do not use elevators in the event of an emergency.
