Dining

Summer BarbecueThe Segundo Dining Commons, located on the south side of the Segundo housing area, has been designed to accommodate our Conference Housing guests with a far greater level of dining comfort and convenience than was possible in our previous facility. Upon entering the post-modern single-level dining hall, guests are greeted with a light-filled dining room dotted with specialty islands among splashes of red and gold; these specialty islands allow faster service and fresher food preparation. Diners can choose from soft seating in the lounge area or table seating in any of the three carpeted dining sections. Sky lights covered in shoji-style screens soften natural room lighting from the dining hall's high ceilings, while a north-facing glass wall provides a curtain of ambient lighting. Accent lighting on walls and dropping from rich wood rafters bring a fresh feel to campus dining.

In addition to greater seating capacity, the new facility incorporates current food preparation technologies and will function as a central kitchen for all UC Davis dining commons. Ushering in a new style of food preparation and service, the Segundo kitchen allows chefs to prepare food of a consistently higher quality and with far less food waste.
